I am a psychoanalyst and psychotherapist working with adults.
I work with patients to understand at a deep level what it is that makes them feel stuck in their thinking and their lives. In turn, they can be helped to make lasting change and lead a full and meaningful life.
I offer treatment for a range of issues including depression, anxiety, relationship difficulties, low self-esteem, and loss and trauma. Whatever the reason for seeking help, I provide a safe, confidential space where analyst and patient can think together. I specialise in medium to longer term work, but am also available for shorter term therapy.
I also offer supervision to psychotherapists in training.
I trained at and am a member of the British Psychoanalytic Association (BPA) and am also a member of the British Psychoanalytic Council (BPC) and International Psychoanalytical Association (IPA). I previously worked in the NHS as a psychotherapist.
My consulting room is in Kentish Town, north London.
Psychoanalysis is an in-depth form of therapy which engages with the unconscious parts of ourselves – feelings, memories, dreams – to help understand and change the way we look at and live in the world. Sometimes we hold beliefs and fears which are ingrained and automatic and we repeat destructive behaviours. Our emotional, creative and professional lives may feel stunted. Psychoanalysis can help free the mind from old ways of being and make room for something new.
In regular 50 minute sessions, patients are invited to say whatever is on their mind. To help this process of ‘free association’, typically patients lie on a couch, without the distraction of seeing the analyst. The duration of treatment varies, but it is generally long-term; lasting and authentic change takes time.
Before agreeing to start, we will meet for one or more initial consultations to think about what it is that brings you to psychoanalysis or therapy and what your thoughts are about commencing treatment.
Sometimes we may decide to meet a few times in this way to help us to decide whether working together would be helpful.
To arrange an initial consultation or to find out more, please contact me by telephone or email. Your messages will be confidential.
My consulting room is well connected by public transport, with nearby Underground (Kentish Town), Overground (Kentish Town West) and Thameslink (Kentish Town) stations. Several bus routes serve the area. Limited metered parking is available on adjacent streets.
